Jazz is a vibrant dance form built around a series of dynamic skills which continuously changes. Jazz is often the style used in musical theatre productions and is influenced by other dance styles such as Hip-Hop, Funk, Disco, Afro, Bollywood and Ballroom. Jazz lessons work through a warmup, basic techniques, jumps, turns leading to fun and challenging combinations. Jazz can assist in the development of a students’ strength, stamina and flexibility.
Contemporary dance has influences from all other styles of dance and is highly varied, yet has a few key elements which characterise it as a style. Contemporary can be used to explore more abstract concepts and ideas but can also be used to convey narrative and emotion. Contemporary classes also involve Lyrical which is very fluid, matching the tone, lyrics and emotion of a piece of music. Contemporary classes are offered to Secondary School aged students who do Ballet.
