WELCOME

A warm welcome to newcomers to the Goulburn Valley Academy of Ballet and welcome back to our families who are already part of our school.

I was once again so proud of the fantastic performances by our students which helped make our concerts last November truly memorable. It was wonderful to see how much the students have improved. Thank you once again to our teachers, students and parents for their efforts. We can now add the 2018 Concert on 24th and 25th November at Eastbank to our calendars and 18th & 21st November Dress Rehearsals.

DVDs of the 2017 Concert will hopefully be available mid-February.

SCHOLARSHIP

Congratulations to Harry Watson and Erin Hicks for being our scholarship winner and runner-up respectively. We can look forward to a solo from these dancers in our next concert.   Shakaya Nickson was a deserved winner of the Encouragement Award.

SUMMER NEWS

Nicola Coats, Sarah Tolliday and Dayna Williams had a great start to their dance year at the live-in Cecchetti Summer School at Melbourne University. They danced five classes each day and a choreographic workshop in the evening culminating in a concert on the last evening. Nicola had the opportunity to choreograph for a group of 30 students and did a fantastic job. A DVD was made of this, and it is amazing to see what the students achieved in five days. The students mixed with other dancers from all over Australia.

Congratulations to Paris Pellegrino, Gemma Cerasi, Taylor Parker and Ruby Shannon on gaining their VCE while keeping up their ballet and jazz classes and concert work. Well done!

HAIR

Classical Hair:

Styled off the face and in a bun at the back of the head. Teachers can demonstrate a bun if you ask or look it up on Youtube.

Jazz Hair:

Styled off the face and in a ponytail/bun to help with turns.

In hot weather, it is a good idea to wet hair before putting it in a bun or a ponytail. This method helps the pupils to keep cooler.

Open Week

Parents are not allowed to sit in on classes, as this distracts the pupils, who work better without the presence of parents. Families are welcome to attend open week which will be held at the end of the first term or early term 2 so that parents can see the progress of their children.

Exams

In some years classical students may be chosen by their teacher to take a ballet exam. Exams are not compulsory, but they do help motivate students. Examiners are supportive and positive. To be considered for exams students from Grade 2 and above will need to attend two ballet classes each week.

Please submit fees in an envelope marked with students name, class and amount. If you require a receipt, please state this on the envelope.
